The Oakdale Acorns finally did it. They became undefeated. They won the championship. Let's look back at everything that had happened:
Dom drafted Anthony Galioto in the first round of the draft, followed by Ty Peluso, then by Zach Williams, then Gavin Aubrey, and then Shyam Reddy. Amelia Lazzini, Cort Blatz, and Michael Harcarik were picked up via free agency.
In their first game, the Acorns shocked all by defeating the Seagullz 12-9. They kept the ball rolling by beating a small-rostered Humpback Whales team, and then defeated the Fog 14-9. These 3 games would be very important to the 'Corns, as not only would stars Michael Harcarik and Cort Blatz shine, but they proved to the league that they could beat any and every team.
They capped off the season by beating the Humpback Whales again, including a 10 goal performance by Dom Lazzini, the most ever scored in one game.
When the playoffs came, the Force of Four became the main Acorns starting team. Dom Lazzini, Anthony Galioto, Cort Blatz and Amelia Lazzini. These four, with the help of Mike Harcarik, would beat the Humpback Whales on a hot summer noon, which would propel the Acorns to the first-ever championship.
At the championship, the Oakdale Acorns palyed relentless defense. Dom Lazzini made a few hits on Ruthvik Panda and Ben Pitetti. The real star of the game was Amelia Lazzini, however, as she had 5 fourth-quarter saves that secured the win for the Acorns. Amelia was named Finals MVP and the Acorns were able to bring a championship back to America's Home Town. So, how do the Acorn Army fair in the future?
With their original line-up, Dom Lazzini, Anthony Galioto, Cort Blatz, and Amelia Lazzini will be hard to beat. Added with some Gavin Aubrey, Tyler Peluso and Mikey Harcarik and Shyam Reddy, the depth for the Acorns is straight-up ridiculous. The Acorns have 4 draft picks this year, which they will use to secure some more depth and possible players.
Honestly, the 2016 Oakdale Acorns will probably be the greatest PMLA team ever. They outscored their opponents 86-64, and EVERY single member of the Acorns was either an All-Star or All 2nd team. Dom Lazzini dropped 41 career goals, 17 more than the next player. Amelia Lazzini had the most saves in the entire combined season. 3/5 of the Acorns were ranked in the top 5 in goals (D. Lazzini, Galioto, Harcarik). The season could have not gone better for the 'Corns.
